Mehring Moselle:
absolutely visit the Roman one„ Villa Rustika“

In a document the name Mehring appears for the first time with the foundation of cloister Prüm in the year 721. Called at that time still "Sairingas", the today's naming is recognizable in the second syllable of the word. Already very early the Winzerschaft formed here the dominating population group. Like the steps of an amphitheater the place from the Moselle shore rises, frames from his vineyards (wine positions: Blattenberg, Goldkupp and hermit monk's mountain).

As a unique contrast in addition rise on the other Moselle side spruce forest and meadow slopes to„ Mehringer Switzerland“ with signposted footpaths. There one also finds in former Römerstrasse from Trier to Mainz a Roman one„ villa rustica“. On exposed foundations it was reconstructed very well.

With her both corner towers and the dazwischenliegenden portico the villa reflects the Roman housing tradition of the 3-rd century again when this mansion was built. With more than 30 rooms on a base of approx. 50 x 30 ms it belonged to the biggest arrangements of the gallorömischen villa type widespread in our region„ Village Bollen“.
