Wiltingen Saar, Center of the Riesling cultivation

Between Trier and Saar castle in the natural old arm of the Saar lies the wine place Wiltingen. The place lies with the Saar loop which was cut off by the canalization of the ship journey way and was thereby received in her original form. Here still flows the old Saar, anglers and nature lovers have her joy in it. Signs Wiltingens are the so-called„ Saar cathedral“ and - of course - the natural old arm of the Saar with the Wiltinger Saar curve.

Wiltingen counts with his more than 1,400 inhabitants as a center of the Riesling cultivation (320 ha) on the lower Saar. Today the place stands completely in the sign of the wine-growing and the position mountain Scharzhof one most famous is on the Saar. Mentioned 1030 for the first time, the settlement goes back till the Roman time.

During the Middle Ages and the early modern times the place formed together a Luxembourgian exclave with which Messrs. von Falkenstein and from break belehnt were with Kanzem. Also several cloisters owned property and big courts, still today with old farmhouses and winegrower's courts the view of a place by his„ founder-temporal villa culture“ stamp.
