Wellen OberMosel, stamped from the mining

In the Moselle municipality Wellen, with 326-ha size, live approx. 700 inhabitants. According to traffic the place is bound to the B419 and the section 626 Trier-Apach. Already since 1878 has waves own railway station.

A Moselle bridge provides for active exchange between waves and the opposite Luxembourgian place Grevenmacher. The commercial structure is dominated by the mining, that is pursued since 1874. In the lime burning plant the limestones won in the underground mining are processed since 1881. At the moment another about 60 employees from formerly 300 - 400 follow in the Wellener lime burning plant of her work. Nevertheless, the mountain-architectural tradition is furthermore stamping for the place.

At the moment approx. 600,000 metric tons of raw stones are diminished yearly. In spite of the prevailing commercial structure the wine-growing is still resident in the municipality. The municipality offers an extensive leisure offer.

Hinges on the Moselle shore, walking by the vineyards with the inspection of the sculptures, riding a bike on the developed cycle track net, invite to the vacation in waves. Short ways to the centers Trier and Luxembourg, as well as superior catering trade with overnight stay possibilities make the municipality, in addition, also as a holiday place attractive.
