Lieser - for visitors is this at first once that place, in the Lieser (place) and Lieser (river) meet. In the river triangle between Lieser and the Moselle lies the place Lieser with about 1,300 inhabitants. Here where the Lieser, from the Eifel coming, already leaves Daun, Manderscheid and Wittlich behind itself, she pours forth into her big sister called the Moselle.
However, also in other regard Lieser is a traffic interchange - and again it is not about the car. Lieser is a starting point and terminator point of the cycle track located under construction Lieser - Daun. And, in the end, Lieser is that kilometer 10.6 of the old road route of Wengerohr to Kues which continued formerly from Wengerohr to Daun. Exactly on this road route becomes the new cycle track Lieser - Daun in essential parts run.
Historical meaning has attained Lieser already in the 16th and 17-th century when the place acted as a stopover by mail from Brussels to Vienna. In the vineyards about Lieser lies the Paulskirche which comes from the 8-th century.
It is one of the oldest churches of the region and was in 1848 in hard revolutionary times a kind of sanctuary for a lot of Moselaner. Just forty years later there originated another building which stamps today the view of a place substantially: the Lieserer castle. One can visit parts of the inventory of the castle established in the Renaissance style today in the home museum.
