Bernkastel-Kues is the center of the Mittelmosel. The history of Bernkastel-Kues as a double town is still rather young; in 1904 the desegregation occurred. A year later the local parts were connected by a bridge. While Bernkastel with his narrow lanes reflects romanticism purely, Kues, as the place with the oldest human settlement counts in the Moselle area; in the Neolithic Age between 4000 and 3,000 B.C. people already sat down here. And of course Kues is the town of the scholar Nikolaus Cusanus - a fact which helps to open big parts of the history to the visitor.
