Sonnenuntergang Zell, Mosel
The Zeller Land
and its seven charming wine places and the spa Bertrich

There are 1.200 grape vines per inhabitant of Zell with its quarters Merl, Barl and Kaimt, which is located inside
the most narrow sinuosity of Moselle. This fact makes Zell one of the largest winegrowing communities in Germany.
The wine growing appellation "Zeller Schwarze Katz" is world-famous - its name is used for nearly 140 years.

Zell is an open minded town. Friendships and cooperative exchange programmes especially in music and sports with several communities (Antoing / Belgium, Crépy-en-Valois /France and Triptis in Thuringia) contributed to this open mindedness.

To learn about history - e.g. the first settlers left their marks 4.000 years ago - you should stroll through the city and drop in in one of the traditional wine cellars or pubs. The name of Zell can be traced back to storehouses (cellae) which were built as well as the small harbour about 70 AD. Zell was the former residence of the elector of Treves. The Altlaytal (Lay valley), which leads you up to the Hunsrück mountains, is a most beautiful spot. The main traffic crosses the Moselle on the verge of Zell. But if you decide to drive through the city, you should remember: pedestrians are the most important road users.

Via Merl you will reach Bullay on the right bank of Moselle, from where you can reach Koblenz, which is connected to the InterCity-railway-system, within 40 minutes.

From Bullay you should take a round trip via Neef to visit the remarkable museum for stoves and dolls before you return on the opposite bank of Moselle to see the water sports paradise of St. Aldegund with its beautiful timber-framed houses.
