St.Aldegund, Zeller Land, MoselSt. Aldegund,
a wine place with long history

Saint Aldegund was mentioned for the first time 1097 in a document as "Sanctam Aldegundam". A settlement at Roman time is proved by foundations of a Roman " villa Rustica " to the south of the place as well as an Early-Christian women's grave discovered in 1953 at vineyard work from the time Konstantins of the tallness, Roman emperors of 306 - 337 A.D.

The grave rescued valuable additions of glass and ceramics, under it a blue glass bowl in form of a Schiffchens as it was not found up to now to the north of the Alps in this valuable execution. Name giver of the place is the merowingische prince's daughter and abbess Aldegundis who lived in the 7-th century in Maubeuge in today's Belgium and worked and shortly after her cancer death was canonized.
