Also the highway Trier-Koblenz is away only one quarter of an hour. In spite of his central position Cochem has kept a historical Old Town with winding alleys and numerous restored buildings. From the medieval city fortification there are still some constructions like the mouse's gate on the Moselle where one day the duty or the toll was raised.
Landmark of the town is in the possession of the town a located imperial castle. It is a reconstruction from the 60s and 70s of the 19-th century, however, was laid low before nearly 200 years. The castle was built for the first time between 11. and the 14-th century. Because as a presentation for the restoration only one woodcut from the 16-th century was available, today relics from several style directions are found between Gothic and early Renaissance. For the rise to the imperial castle one takes best of all the way about the "Tummelchen" with his old "sugar turret" which served for the marking of the town border and stands on the rests of the historical town wall which is still received up to hilltop of the "Tummelchen".
In Cochem one can on no account let escape the lanes all around the marketplace with all her small stores - but also not both possibilities for a breathtaking panoramic look; there the chair lift is, on the one hand, to the mountain Pinner and the fairy tale park; on the opposite side is recommended (in spite of bridges one should cross the Moselle best of all with the ferry) the nature reserve of Shower mountain, the so-called Loreley of the Moselle.
Cochem offers in spite of big tourist offer also everything that what puts out an earthy vacation. There a big choice comes in the matter of Hotellerie and catering trade; private renders, wine cellars and wine taverns complement the offer. Fair, parties and cultural arrangements apply about the whole year, from the opening concert of the Moselle festival at the beginning of May up to the party of the new wines at the middle of November.
Also for the cultural-historically interested visitor Cochem is a true Eldorado. Even during the most animated days the streets and lanes in the evening become quiet and romantic again.
